Cross Country

9/26/23
Good morning, athletes & parents:

The Avon Boys' Cross Country team had an excellent meet at the 11th Annual Winding Trails Invitational, coming away as Medium-Sized Schools winners in both Varsity and JV races!

In the JV race, Freshman Bao Tran led the way with a 2nd place PR finish, followed closely by Ketan Badrinath in 3rd, Aidan McLaughlin in 6th, and then a pack of Harshmit Verman, Dante Sambugaro, and Riley Klotz locking up the 8th through 10th spots, all with PRs, and Teja Lakamraju finishing 7th for Avon to come in 13th to displace other team’s runners!

Also running PRs for the JV team were Andrew Kim, Vlad, Jeremy, Aariz, Saujas, Sam, Ezra, Nate, Tarun, Matthew Cao, Brendan, and Jasman!

The big story of the day, though, was the boys’ Varsity team’s victory — the 3rd for Avon in the 11-year history of the meet! Will Lancaster won the race by over 30 seconds, and Brahm Bulow led Avon’s Varsity pack with a 5th place PR. He was closely followed by Will Nusom (8th, PR), Andrew Kessler (10th, PR), and Chris Campbell (12th, PR) to wrap up Avon’s scorers, while John Pierangeli (21st in a season’s best time) and Owen White (38th) ran well to displace runners from competing teams.

It was a great meet for Avon, who will look to keep it rolling against Southington and Glastonbury tomorrow at Southington H.S.! The meet was originally scheduled to occur at Camp Sloper, but it has been moved to the High School. Bus will leave AHS at 2:30, and the meet should begin no later than 4:15 for the start of the Girls' race. All Avon boys will be racing together in a single race tomorrow.

The course map is attached below. I have been told that although there are short stretches of pavement on the course, it is spikeable; considering the rain over the past weekend, 1/4" spikes might be advisable for those who have them.

In preparation for tomorrow's meet, (assuming they took yesterday as a rest day) athletes should go for an easy run today with strides and stretching afterwards. Varsity should aim for ~40min of running (including strides), 35 for "mid JV", 30 for newcomers/novices. We will have practice as usual after school Wednesday through Friday this week as well as Saturday morning at 9am.

Thanks, and reach out if you have any questions!
